The Cygnet Conservatory Cafe at The Old Bank is a must do for hungry families exploring Tasmania with kids & visiting the vibrant township of Cygnet, about an hour's drive south of Tasmania's capital city Hobart in the Huon Valley. Owned & run by fabulous Hostess Sharon, the staff really make an effort to give a warm welcome to adults & children alike. Set in one of Cygnet's National Trust listed key-stoned buildings, the cafe is in a conservatory extension to the original town's bank opened in 1909. It is light & bright & surrounded by a charming courtyard garden with sculpture & water features. This makes it easier for families with younger kids to spread out a little & allow the little ones space to do some roaming.
Cygnet Conservatory Cafe is licensed & focuses on serving delicious locally sourced food & wine. There are always seasonal offerings for children on the menu & the team will try to be flexible with special requests. There is a high chair, baby change table, kids colouring & drawing materials & the space is pram friendly. The decor is perfectly suited to the vintage country style location set amongst rolling working farmland pastures. Visitors can learn more about the region during their Tasmania family holiday by experiencing the orchard out the back with 25 varieties of apples & pears. There are chickens occasionally doing a bit of free ranging in the courtyard to delight the kids. If that isn't enough to add bang to your buck, there is also Paddock to Garment - a weaving/spinning studio, gallery & shop specialising in alpaca & silk garments & gifts as well as Three Twigs clothing, accessories & homewares housed within the original bank teller part of the building. The Cafe itself sells Tasmanian food & artisan giftware like the superb range of Tasmanian Tea Company products & the truly adorable & innovative Sustomi beeswax cloth food wraps bringing the environmentally conscious one huge step closer to a zero waste lifestyle. All of this & good coffee, makes Cygnet Conservatory Cafe a family friendly high achiever!

Perfect while on your family driving holidays Tasmania, this is definitely the ONLY cafe in the Huon Valley offering respite for the whole family with their rumpus room. Appreciated especially by parents with smaller children because here you actually have a better than even chance to enjoy your coffee & meal at the same time as responsibly supervising your youngsters amusing themselves with the toys & cubby house. The Local Coffee House serves a pared down but delicious menu of locally sourced Huon Valley produce & hosts regular Mums & Bubs groups. You can also purchase a range of top quality Huon Valley smallgoods such as oil, spices, tea, jam, honey whiskey mustard & more. Non-edible Huon Valley souvenirs are on display for purchase including groovy tea towels, ceramics and a very good range of books by Tasmanian authors showcasing the best of the region so you can get the best out of your Tasmania family holiday. One of the best kept secrets about living in the Huon Valley is the local custom of sharing excess fresh produce with one's friends & neighbours. The Local Cafe has taken this to a new level with their seasonal Crop Swap initiative where locals are encouraged to leave extra veggies, fruit or other produce in a basket on the 'sharing shelf' at the cafe, so others can take what they would like to use, thus spreading the nourishing love!
